The physics and rendering of the mesh is handled by the Roblox's engine. The Terrain object cannot be destroyed nor parented. There is an unused granite terrain block.Terrain is a voxel-based mesh that, unlike parts, can be modified through the Terrain object which is parented to the Workspace.The stamper tool's gravel image is a different texture then when it is placed down.It could be placed down as a block, vertical ramp, corner, inverse corner, or horizontal wedge. Smooth terrain kept some of the same terrain types as the original, but also scrapped some and introduced a few new ones. Voxel Terrain was removed on January 1, 2017, replaced by a new technology called Smooth Terrain, after 5 years since introduction. The 2011 update also introduced the terrain editor to Roblox Studio. It seems it was originally made to bypass the problems that arose with places being too small, or not being able to have enough parts. Here, developers Simon Kozlov (Gemlocker) and Ben Deckinga (bjdeck) showcased the terrain. Voxel terrain was first announced at the 2011 Roblox Rally. You could also click to generate new terrain, and elevated terrain could easily be flattened to certain degrees. Craters could be formed, or spheres could be raised out of the ground. It could be edited in a way similar to the modern day smooth terrain. Rockets did not affect it, but it could be destroyed or transformed into other terrain parts (cube - ramp) via explosives. Voxel terrain did not use gravity and was permanently anchored. The feature was a part of two other releases from the 2010-2012 era of Roblox, and helped move the game in a different direction. Voxel Terrain was different from the regular Roblox parts in that they were optimized for use in large, expansive worlds and for quick generation, and also in that they worked with physics differently. Unlike modern terrain, it could be used not only for environments but also for buildings, as it would remain in its cuboid shape, similar to other Stamper Tool parts. These parts came in a wide variety of different materials and shapes, and could be used in many different ways. Voxel Terrain, also known as Legacy Terrain or Cubic Terrain, was a major Roblox feature introduced in 2011 which allowed users to build, generate, and add large amounts of cubical parts consisting of voxels, with little to no lag.
